Hi, [NAME]. With Father’s Day coming up, I wanted to suggest something that I know dads would love. In your Go With the Flow PowePak devotion and prayer booklet, there’s a Father’s Day prayer. I know it’s designed as a prayer, but I think dads would love seeing what you fill into the blanks. So I just wanted to call your attention to it and suggest cutting it out and putting it in a Father’s Day card, too!
Hi, [NAME]! Just checking in. Hope your summer is going well. I know summer can be full of days filled with hot sun and go, go, go. I noticed one of the Connect Cards in the Go With the Flow PowerPaks we gave out has a “Rest Connect” card that seems perfect for crazy days. So I just wanted to encourage you to tape that somewhere to help you and your family remember to rest, too!
Hi, [NAME]! Praying for your day and thinking of you. May your day be filled with sunshine and smiles. May God give you hope and encouragement if or when your patience runs thin. 😊
It’s almost summer—are you ready?
Hi, [NAME]!
I just wanted to drop you a line because I know summer is upon us and the kiddos will be out of school. And while I know that summer is super exciting for all the kids, it can bring some not-so-desired feelings and frustrations for us grown-ups as we hear the phrases “I’m bored” or “We never do anything fun!” or “My sunburn hurts” or…fill in the blanks. Patience is a fruit that I just don’t have sometimes. Feel the same?
So as you head into summer, I have a couple of suggestions to help everyone practice patience—including the kids.
First, check out the Go With the Flow PowerPak we gave out at church (if you didn’t get one, please let me know so I can get one to you!). There’s a SUPER fun build-your-own mini-golf game that I think your family will get a lot of joy out of. Plus, since the whole theme of the contents is patience, you’ll find lots of other things that will help your family understand God’s patience and practice patience with each other. No pressure from me to try it all—but I’d love for your family to choose one or two things to try, and I’d love it even more if you emailed me or texted me back to tell me what you did!
Second, might I suggest having a “family meeting” to set some “ground rules” heading into summer? Sometimes just acknowledging there will be bumps and making a plan for how you’ll navigate those bumps ahead of time is all everyone needs to stay on track.
Together, make a list of “if this happens” then…fill in the blank. For example, “If someone gets a little cranky, then we will say ‘banana’ so that person can take a minute to shake it off.” Getting everyone involved in making up the rules is a great way for everyone to feel ownership and provides better chances for the “rules” to be followed. Tape the rules somewhere your family spends the most time. Or make copies and tape them everywhere, including the car!
That’s all for today! Let me know if there’s anything I can be praying for, for you and your family this week and all summer long!
[YOUR NAME]
P.S. May this Bible verse lift you up and get you ready for summer fun!
“We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need.” —Colossians 1:11
Just checking in…
Hi, [NAME].
Why is it that summer feels like it just started, yet the school supplies are already facing us down in the stores?! I’m already feeling anxious about homework, sniffles, and being on a fixed schedule! 🙃
Anyway, I hope your family has been enjoying the summer so far. It sure has been hot! I wanted to drop you a line because I was wondering if your family has had a chance to try out any of the Go With the Flow PowerPak activities or devotions yet. (Not sure what I’m talking about? Let me know!)
If you haven’t had a chance, it’s OK. I know how time can get away from us and how sometimes getting everyone together in one place at one time can be challenging! But I also want to encourage (or even challenge) you to give something a try this week. There’s a lot of great ideas that are really easy to fit into your family rhythm—and everything in it is designed to help your family practice patience and learn how patient God is with us—which is something we all need, especially in the summer! Not sure where to start? I recommend the Connect Cards or the family prayers.
If you have dug in (or once you do), I would love to hear what you’ve tried and what you think! Have you been able to see patience grow within your family as the summer has progressed?
Patience doesn’t come naturally for a lot of us—and summertime can be a time of increased stress for sure! So I want to leave you with this note from the Bible…
“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” —Galatians 6:9
So keep practicing patience as a family. Don’t give up. The reward will be worth it!
